Badab 2005 - Intro

In May 2005, four club members travelled up to Warhammer World in Nottingham to take part in The Badab War, one of Games Workshop's Dark Stars Campaign Weekends for their Warhammer 40,000 game system.

Here are a few pictures to give a feel of what went on.  Thanks to Clive Dudley and John Orange for providing the pictures.  John commented: "Some of my pictures are a bit blurred: what can I say?  The camera was new, and people kept moving about..."

Players could specify whether they wanted to be Attackers or Defenders when they bought their tickets, although the Attacker tickets sold out very quickly.
All four Plymouth players were part of the Defender force.  Clive Dudley and Rob Cowan had Imperial Guard armies, Les Shuttlewood had his Dark Eldar slavers, and John Orange took a huge horde of Orks.

The first step was the queue for Registration...

Once registered, we all gathered in Bugman's Bar, where we were supplied with Coffee and Doughnuts while we waited for Registration to finish.

As more players arrived, some very nice armies came out of their boxes....

...but some players' armies clearly weren't quite ready for the competition!

Here, Nick Appleby introduces the Umpiring Team.
Players were then divided into Task Forces of between six and eight players. The Task Force Commanders made strategic decisions about where to attack, and where to defend each round.
There were five rounds, three on Saturday and two on Sunday, with the results of one round affecting the options available to each side in the next round.

Once the Task Forces had been selected, the Attackers and Defenders separated for their initial briefing.  The Attackers drew the short straw, and had to stay in the Gaming Hall, while the Defenders got to withdraw to Bugman's Bar!  On the right, the Task Force commanders are deciding on their first round attacks.

Just to prove we were really there, we went back into the Gaming Hall where John's son snatched a picture of us from the Warhammer World web cam.  Clive, Les and John can be seen here: Rob had been elected Task Force Commander, and was "discussing" the options for the first round.
