Dark Stars 2007

Over the weekend of May 19th/20th 2007, club members John Orange and Rob Cowan went to the latest Games Workshop Campaign weekend - Dark Stars: Where Angels Lie.

This took place at GW's Nottingham HQ - see this page for some information about the venue.

With seven games over the course of the weekend, it was very hectic, with limited time to complete each round. However, they were very successful: John won five of his games with his Orks, and Rob won all of his with Dark Eldar, plus they won the pub quiz in Bugman's Bar on Saturday night!

Rob's Dark Eldar faction went on to win the campaign.

John took his camera, and took pictures of his games, as well as pictures of other games that caught his eye.

As usual, we all gathered in Bugman's Bar, while we waited for the Registration Desk to open.

Once again, we were supplied Tea, Coffee and Donuts to start the day with.

Whilst no-one was painting in Bugman's this year, more than one person was writing out his list!

There is always lots of nice scenery at Warhammer World events, and this one was no exception.  Here are some things that caught my eye - mostly impressive cityscapes featuring the GW buildings.

Late on the Saturday afternoon, this same scenery was much in use by visitors to the shop - here we see a huge Tyranid horde (150 Gaunts!) swarm through the ruins.

The other thing you always see at these Campaign Weekends is interesting armies.  Unlike tournament weekends, where you tend to see endless variations on a few finely-tuned lists, the uncertainties inherent in the campaign mean all sorts of armies are likely to provide a fun weekend.

I didn't get a lot of time to take pictures of other armies (Orks take a long time to pack away!), but here are a few things that I liked

I was struck by this colour-scheme.  It would never have occurred to me to use Lime Green with Ultramarines Blue...

These CybOrks have Tyranid parts grafted onto them instead of Bioniks - brilliant!

This Land Raider was absolutely marvellous, with all the interior detail fully painted.  Unfortunately, the Bleached Bone colour scheme proved very difficult to get good pictures of!

I've got some more pictures of it to edit, and I'll add any more good ones later.

Both of these armies looked really good, and seeing them matched against each other on the GW scenery was excellent.  Everywhere you looked in this game there were well-painted models, often with extra bells and whistles modelled onto them.
This is the standard we should all aspire to!

An unusual feature of this year's Dark Stars event was the presence of the Epic Grand Tournament, running in one corner of the hall.

These guys seemed to be having a really good time all through the weekend, and had some lovely armies in use.

Just to prove Rob really was there, here are some pictures of one of his games.

Rob was using Dark Eldar kindly loaned to him by fellow PAW member Les Shuttlewood.  As usual, he won all his games quite handily...

Here's a shot of Games Workshop's Brian Aderson, a prime mover in the organisation of Dark Stars events, at the start of the presentations.  Thanks are due to Brian and his team for all the work they put in to making the event enjoyable.

Here's the Dark Eldar faction (well, most of them) being awarded their prize certificates, with Rob Cowan third from the right.

So that was the ends of another enjoyable Dark Stars event.  Roll on the next one!
