Here's a few pictures from our regular club meeting of April 3rd, 2005.

There was nothing special about this meeting, it wasn't even particularly well attended (about 20 players), but these few pictures give an idea of the range of games a visitor can expect to see at a typical meeting.

Thanks to Clive Dudley for supplying the pictures.

Orlando Murrish ran a mini-competition for WizKids' MechWarrior game-system, which attracted a good number of players of all ages.

All of the WizKids systems (MechWarrior, Mage Knight and Pirates of the Spanish Main) are popular, and mini-tournaments for one or the other are a regular feature of meetings at the moment.

Here, Ron Leacy and Chris Lewis play Games Workshop's Warhammer Fantasy Battles, watched by Dave Lewis.

Warhammer Fantasy is a leading system locally, and games can be seen at most meetings.

The top historical system is DBM, Wargames Research Group's rules for the Ancient and Medieval period.

Games are played in both 15mm and 25mm scale, although the 15mm seen in this picture are much more common.   This is another game-system that is played at most meetings.

Other historical games run in cycles: Napoleonics using the Principles of War rules is leading the pack at the moment, and can be seen here being played by Paul Dennis, Nigel Blair and Ken Hockney
Another Games Workshop system, Warhammer 40,000 (WH40K) has had an explosion in popularity since the publication of the new 4th edition of the rules shortly before Christmas 2004.

In this picture Clive Dudley's Imperial Rough Riders, lurking behind a wood, wait for a good charge target to move into range.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the table, John Orange's Ork horde surges towards the objective.

WH40K is also frequently sighted at meetings, and is popular with younger players because it doesn't need huge regiments of figures. Unless you're playing Orks, that is.

So there you have it: eight games and about 20 players this week, although ten to twelve games and 25-30 players is more typical. The games ranged across Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer 40K, WizKids' MechWarrior, DBM Ancients and Principles of War Napoleonics.

We also see other Games Workshop and WizKids games regularly, and many other historical periods over the course of the year.  Come along and join in!
