PAW has staged a convention in Plymouth every year since 1983.   Here are a few pictures of the 2009 event, which took place over the weekend of January 31st/February 1st.  Special thanks to Clive Dudley, Steve Foulds and John Orange for supplying the pictures.

Once again, a large number of people worked hard to bring display games of various sorts to the show.  We'd like to thank them all for their efforts, and we look forward to seeing next year's games

These are the games that caught the attention of our judges, and the winners of the tournaments. 

     
Torquay Gaming Group (aka Eagles High) won Best Demonstration Game for their Defend the Temple game, set in the Warhammer 40K universe

 

 
     
     
The Best Participation Game went to Colin (Smudger) Smith for his Streets of Glory 54mm WWII game.

Colin's game featured scratch-built vehicles, including a Tiger tank!

     
The Warhammer Fantasy tournament was popular again this year, with 26 players.  The competition uses a seven-round Fast Play format developed by umpire Kevin Shillito

Steve Pearse was 1st, with Wood Elves

     
Ryan Dell was 2nd, also with Wood Elves

Jamie Clarke was 3rd, with Warriors of Chaos

Colin Farrant's High Elves were awarded the trophy for  Best Army
 

     
The Warhammer 40K competition was slightly down on last year, with 30 players.  Rob Cowan umpired, and the whole competition was played in a friendly and enjoyable style.
 
Richard Deane came 1st with Dark Angels

Dan Cates was 2nd with Space Marines

Peter Corps was 3rd with Chaos
Ed Neale-Scullion was awarded the trophy for Best Themed Army for his excellent Tau Best Sportsman went to Mark Taylor Jon Corps received Best Painted Army for his stunning Necrons

Kurt Baker's Space Marine Commander was Best Commander Model Kurt's winning model Jon's winning army

     
This year we elected to use the Field of Glory rules for both of our Ancients competitions, umpired by Andy Clarke

The 25mm Ancients competition was played in that friendly style only possible to players who have known each other for many years. 

Steve Price was 1st with Seleucids Richard Jeffrey-Cook was 2nd with Later Low Countries Andy Unwin was awarded the Best Painted Army for his French Ordonnance
     
New for 2009 was a 15mm Ancients competition. 

This was a very close competition, with the final places decided on Countback.
