In November 2004, members Clive Dudley and Rob Cowan went to the Soul
Devourers Warhammer 40K themed Tournament at Warhammer World.
Here are some pictures of the event, kindly supplied by Clive Dudley

The event took place in the excellent Warhammer World Gaming
Hall, seen here before the rush started!
This is a splendid venue, with lots of really good professionally made
scenery on the tables: well worth a visit.

Clive took an Imperial Guard army to the competition, and
so would fight Necron and Tyranid opponents throughout the
weekend.
In these pictures, his light units are desperately trying to find cover,
hoping to survive until their heavy support units turn up...

...which, of course, they eventually did, catching the
Necrons in the open.
In this later game, the infantry, inspired by the arrival
of supporting armour, bravely seize the building forming the central
objective. They die. |

Another game, another Necron.
This time, the Guard are supported by a contingent of Black Templars, who start
the game hiding behind the Guard vehicles...
...mostly because the Guard units have already grabbed
all the rest of the available cover! |

For reasons of his own, the Necron player hardly moved
from his start line.
Eventually, the Templars got bored and assaulted the
Necron line - their own distinctive response to failing a morale test,
apparently! |

|
|
Here, a small Guard unit has used its Deep
Strike special deployment ability to arrive behind the Necron line.
The unit narrowly avoided the twin catastrophes of missing the table or
landing on the enemy - yes, that dark triangle in the bottom left of the
picture is the table edge, and yes, they have arrived only 2.5
inches from the Necrons....
Obviously inspired by their close shave, they then proceeded to destroy
the Necron unit in one turn of shooting! |

Clive's last game was against this splendid
Tyranid army, which included some absolutely stunning scratch-built
Monstrous Creatures. |
| These pictures give some feeling of how much the large
models dominated the table.
Very daunting!

They're eating the tanks!
The Tyranid creatures rush into close combat with the
Guard tanks, doing some damage immediately, but eventually just tying
themselves up for no great gain. |
